The landing place

The main harbor station, in addition to the Porto Venere junction, is located in La Spezia, in Passeggiata Morin; it is opposite the historic gardens, with their rare essences and varieties of trees that come from all over the world. It is located near the Thaon di Revel bridge and where fishing boats dock. Numerous lines depart from here, for example, the one that leads to one of the most picturesque and wild places in the province, Pozzale, on the island of Palmaria.

La Spezia is a town with a very ancient history, whose origins are lost in the mists of time; its territory was already known in Roman times and, over the centuries, it has been described by poets, writers, and represented by numerous painters of all ages, without neglecting the twentieth century and our new millennium.

Recently, the historic center of the town has been equipped for tourism, and several activities have sprung up: It is possible to have an aperitif in one of the numerous mixology clubs and to sip locally produced beer and wines; there are a great number of restaurants offering a menu of the traditional cuisine as well as of fish.

The central part of the town of La Spezia has a remarkable museum network. A center for Contemporary Art (CAMEC) where exhibitions of national importance are organized; The Naval Technical Museum of the Navy, with its famous "sala delle Polene"(room of the Figureheads); The Castle of Saint George, the oldest museum in the town, a castle that has existed for over one hundred and forty years and preserves unique archaeological finds from all over the provincial territory.

Furthermore, La Spezia is famous for its architectural heritage which boasts significant examples of liberty and decò (concentrated above all in the Umbertino district), the rationalists, such as the Palazzo delle Poste in Piazza Verdi, designed by Mazzoni and which houses valuable futurist mosaics by Prampolini and Fillia. Furthermore, Piazza Verdi is a public area that offers the possibility of visiting a public art complex by the famous Daniel Buren.

La Spezia Centro is one of the 13 hamlets that participates in the "rowing challenge", the Palio of the Gulf.
