Docks: Monterosso

Line 02 - Cinque Terre

Monterosso

This value, expressed by a minimum of to a maximum of
indicates exposure to atmospheric events that can make it necessary to close the landing wharf.

The landing place

It is the last of the Cinque Terre, as well as the largest village.
The landing place is located in the old harbor, a short walk from the historic center of the village; it is among the safest in the Cinque Terre although it may suffer from some adverse sea conditions, for example in strong winds.
Beyond the promontory on which Aurora tower stands, crossed from side to side by a hundred-meter-long tunnel, is the Fegina area, that part of the village where there are tourist residential facilities, the Railway Station, and the famous Giant-the 14-meter-high statue depicting the god Neptune.

Interesting facts

The statue of the Giant, produced from reinforced concrete, emerges from the rock and towers over the beach of the same name. It was built in 1910, designed by architect Francesco Levacher and artist Arrigo Minerbi. Originally the sculpture adorned Villa Pastine, supporting a shell-shaped terrace. The work, however, was damaged beyond repair by World War II bombing. Villa Pastine, moreover, is the place from which Nobel laureate Eugenio Montale, who spent the summers of his youth in this locality, was inspired for his famous poem "The House of the Customsmen."

Advantages

Although Monterosso is the last of the Cinque Terre the services of Navigation do not end there.
The transportation we provide extends for an additional stretch of coastline and reaches: Levanto, Deiva Marina and Moneglia - so it is possible to visit these additional locations or, for those staying overnight in one of them, to visit the Cinque Terre.
Monterosso also is a beautiful seaside resort that has a unique coastline where sparkling beaches face the open sea, an emerald and turquoise sea. In Monterosso it is possible to rent canoes and pedal boats to explore every nook and cranny of the coast.
Those who wish to move on the mainland also have numerous hiking opportunities, for example, one can tackle - with suitable footwear - the path that connects this village to Vernazza.
In addition, from Monterosso, and any village in the Cinque Terre, it is possible to reach Porto Venere, a place not provided by rail service, enjoying the view from the sea of the Riviera.
