This is the starting point for those wishing to reach the Cinque Terre or Porto Venere. The journey begins from the Lungomolo del Grego, at 8:45 am. A brilliant panorama that goes from the mountains streaked with clouds all the way to the open sea; with the possibility of seeing the islands of Elba, Capraia, Corsica on the horizon, when the mist dissipates. A landing place where various eras confront each other: the Lungomolo del Greco has origins in the Italian Risorgimento: in 1577 the docks were built, two extensions of the Burlamacca Canal and, from that moment, the activities of the port gradually developed, giving life to seafaring traditions. Conditions of a heavy sea do not preclude access.
On the Lungomolo del Greco there is a peculiar monument: a bronze statue representing a cat. This cat’s name was Ettore and he lived there for 19 years - a point of reference for fishermen and for all those who frequent the quay. Upon his death, some benefactors decided to dedicate this memorial to him.
Reaching Porto Venere and the Cinque Terre by boat, starting from Viareggio, ensures a unique and comfortable travel experience which is as good, in terms of practicality, as the train. It takes about two hours to get to Porto Venere, after brief stops in Marina di Massa and Marina di Carrara. It is possible to spend time outdoors, losing your thoughts to a unique panorama, from Eastern Liguria to Northern Tuscany.
