“Rubra” used to be the ancient Latin name given to this village because of the reddish colour of the hills at sunset or it could be the colour of the lord’s hair (Rufus) that inhabited the castle.

It is the biggest village of the National Park of the 5 Terre and the centre it’s old and interesting with its narrow lanes and colourful houses. Here you will find a wide range of souvenir shops and wine cellars where you can taste the rare dessert wine “Sciacchetrà” or the dry white wine “5 Terre”. On the hill you can visit the Convent of the “Capuccini”from where you can admire the incredible landscape.

Descending on the opposite side of the village you will reach the end of village where a dominant sculpture of Neptune (1910), known as the “Gigante”, stands.
