Fosdinovo is in the lower Magra valley.
It was involved in fights between the Malaspina and the bishops of Luni; from 1340 on, Spinetta Malaspina became the only owner of the fee, beginning a period of splendours and peace that lasted until 1800. Linked to its impressive castle are many legends and stories: tradition has it that Dante Alighieri was a guest here, and that the ghost of a young maiden punished by her parents for having fallen in love with a groom appears in its rooms. In Fosdinovo we also find the parish church of S. Remigio with the sepulchre of Galeotto Malaspina, which is rather interesting under the artistic viewpoint
